Sonny Emory

Sonny Emory ( born December 23, 1962) is an American drummer of the fusion jazz and honorary professor at Georgia State University for Applied percussion instruments.

Life and work

Emory was given his first drum kit at the age of four years. With his father (saxophone) and his grandfather (keyboard ), he played at home the first few pieces. In high school and in college, he played in a variety of orchestras and bands. 1986 he moved to Los Angeles. He got his first professional engagement at Joe Sample and the Crusaders. Shortly after it discovered Maurice White of Earth, Wind and Fire, where he played from 1987 to 1999 drums.

Sonny Emory is in addition to his work on the drums also a composer. He has worked with Eric Clapton and David Sanborn on the soundtrack for Lethal Weapon II As a studio musician, he has worked on albums by Stanley Clarke, David Sanborn, Bette Midler, Al Jarreau, Paula Abdul, Jean -Luc Ponty, and Boz Scaggs.
