Sonpur is a town or village development committee (a type of municipality) in southwestern Nepal. It is located about 280 km ( air line) west-southwest of the capital, Kathmandu, and belongs to Madhya Pashchim in the Rapti zone, in the south-western district of Dang Deukhuri.

The city is geographically located on the south side of the Siwaliks - this is a medium mountain -like mountain range that extends in front of the southern edge of the Himalayas.

Sonpur has 11,366 inhabitants ( 2001), of which 50.8 % men and 49.2% women.
