Sony Centre for the Performing Arts

The Sony Centre for the Performing Arts ( Hummingbird Centre) is a large theater building in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located close to the main artery King Street on Front Street East 1 It was opened in 1960 and has 3000 seats. Since the opening of world famous performances and stars were entering the stages of the center. The repertoire includes about 20 productions that are played daily changing or in blocks next concerts. The Sony Center closed its doors on 26 June 2008. The theater building has been completely refurbished, which were completed on October 1, 2010.

Building project

In 2006, the Sony Center received a building permit from the City of Toronto, to build a high residential building, which is directly adjacent to the theater building. The building was designed by the architect Daniel Libeskind, who has also previously worked at the Royal Ontario Museum. The new residential buildings, also known as L Tower and with more than 200 meters above sea level, is currently under construction and is southwest at Sony Centre adjacent. The completion of the building is scheduled for January 2013.
