Sophie Amalie Moth

Sophie Amalie Moth ( born March 28, 1654 Copenhagen, † January 17, 1719 ibid ) was the mistress of the Danish-Norwegian king Christian V. (* 1646, † 1699) and was raised in 1677 by the King to the Countess of Samsø.

Origin

Sophie Amalie was the youngest daughter of Paul (from) Moth ( 1600-1670 ), royal personal physician, and his wife Ida Dorothea Bureneus ( 1624-1689 ). She grew up with her siblings together on the court in Copenhagen and got by governesses an appropriate time for education.

Royal Romance

In 1669 the 22 -year-old Crown Prince Christian, the only fifteen year old Sophie Amalie noticed, after which he took as his permanent mistress. Sophie was smart enough to deal with the wife of a short time later king, Charlotte Amalie (1650-1714) respectfully. It is still unclear whether the queen felt offended by the existence of a mistress, or whether it was realistic enough to accept the fact. 1676 was the prime minister Peder Schumacher Griffenfeld ( 1635-1699 ) in disgrace and King Christian gave the island of Samsø, which he had previously received a year from Countess Magdalena Gersdorff, his mistress. He gave her the title of Countess of Samsø and allowed her an appanage. From the relationship with the king five children, he publicly recognized in 1679 and who received all the surnames Gyldenløve.

On May 8, 1699 married her niece Margaret Amalie Moth ( 1683-1755 ), daughter of his brother Matthias ( 1649-1719 ), a physician, lexicographer and estimated by the King government officials in Copenhagen Baron Christian Gyldenkrone ( 1676-1746 ), a influential Danish politician.
