Sophie Caroline of Brandenburg-Kulmbach

Sophie Caroline of Brandenburg- Kulmbach ( born March 31, 1705 Weferlingen, † June 7, 1764 at Schloss Sorgenfri in Copenhagen) was a princess of Brandenburg Kulmbach from the side line ( of Kulmbach - Bayreuth branch ) of the younger branch of the Franconian Hohenzollern and by Marriage Princess of Ostfriesland.

Life

Sophie Karoline was a daughter of Margrave Christian Heinrich of Brandenburg- Kulmbach (1661-1708) from his marriage to Sophie Christiane (1667-1737), daughter of Count Albrecht Friedrich von Wolfenstein to Sulzbürg.

On December 8, 1723, she was at Castle Pretzschendorf the second wife of Prince Georg Albrecht von Ostfriesland. As a jointure Sophie Karolineburg Berum was assured. The marriage remained childless and proved extremely unhappy in her last years. Georg Albrecht turned to a Polish maid of honor of his wife and fell completely under its influence. Sophie Karoline was described as moderately talented, but was very popular because of her piety and her amiable character. She has published spiritual poems.

She survived her husband by 30 years, lived from 1734 to 1740 at Castle Berum, then moved permanently as a guest of her sister, the Danish Queen Sophie Magdalene, to Denmark and died at Castle Sorgenfri in Copenhagen. She was buried in Roskilde Cathedral. After Sophie Karoline Carolinensiel the place was named.
