Sophie of Brandenburg-Ansbach

Sophie of Brandenburg- Ansbach (* March 23, 1535 in Ansbach, † February 22, 1587 in Legnica ) was a Princess of Brandenburg -Ansbach and was by marriage Duchess of Legnica.

Life

Sophie was a daughter of the Margrave George of Brandenburg -Ansbach (1484-1543) from his third wife, Aemilia (1516-1591), daughter of the Duke Henry of Saxony.

She married on 11 November 1560 in Liegnitz duke Heinrich XI. of Liegnitz ( 1539-1588 ). The connection was Sophie's father to consolidate its recognition as a Silesian duke. The marriage proved to be very unhappy, which was also due to a significant irritability Sophie.

Sophie is not to be confounded with their eponymous aunt (1485-1537), which was also the Duchess of Legnica.
