Soret peak

The Soret band is the most intense band in the visible region of the absorption spectra of chlorophylls. It is located in the blue wavelength range and is named after its discoverer, Jacques -Louis Soret, who described it for the first time. It is an important instrument in the absorption spectroscopy of porphyrins.

The absorption maximum is dependent on the polarity of the solvent. In each case the same solvent, one can distinguish different chlorophylls as chlorophyll a, b and bacteriochlorophyll a by each characteristic wavelength of the absorption maximum and the molar extinction coefficient.
