Soul Train Music Awards

The Soul Train Music Awards is an award ceremony held annually since 1987, which is transmitted in the U.S. nationwide on television and radio. Prizes will be awarded specifically for African-American music and entertainment. Produces the awarding of the former producer of Soul Train, a former television program for African-American music, which was from 1971 to 2009 also broadcast nationwide to Don Cornelius.

The jury consists of music journalists and other related professions, and to artists who already got the award itself. Will be moderated by changing the show presenters, such as Luther Vandross, Patti LaBelle, Will Smith, Vanessa Williams, and Gladys Knight.

Janet Jackson holds the record for the most Soul Train Awards in front of her brother Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston.

Because of the strike, the writers in Hollywood Ceremony 2008 was canceled. The ceremony on 29 November 2009 was moderated by Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard and transmitted in parallel on two television stations.

Namesake of the award is 60 minute long TV series of the U.S. television with exclusively African-American music under the title Soul Train, which was set first aired on October 2, 1971 once a week and on 18 December 2009.
