Source–measurement unit

An SMU is a multifunctional device that is used in most electronics lab and in production ( as Automatic Test Equipment (ATE ) ). Depending on the manufacturer, the abbreviation for source measurement unit or source meter unit (both to German as " source and measure unit "). SMUs are available since about 1990 and are available as integrated systems in addition to the previously known highly modular test systems.

An SMU consists of two main components:

Also available are SMMU (source measurement unit multiplex ) with additional multiplexer which feeds both the voltages / currents of the power supply into the specimen as also produces the connection between the test specimen and measuring system.

Are used SMMUs for Functional Test (FCT ) and In-Circuit Test (ICT ) in appropriate test systems.
