South Harz Nature Park

The Southern Harz Nature Park is located in the district of Nordhausen in the north of Thuringia. The regulation of the village in resin natural parks came into force on 31 December 2010, thus paving the fifth Nature Park in Thuringia. It is 267 km ². Carrier is Südharzer Tourism Association in coordination with the Natural Park Kyffhaeuser.

The nature park includes parts of Südabfalls the Lower Harz, the gypsum karst landscape of the subsequent Zechsteingürtels and the transition area to the North Thuringian Buntsandstein country. In the south of the park is bordered by the valley of the helmets, on the other sides by the Thuringian border. Its western border is part of the Green Belt Germany. It is bordered on the east by the biosphere reserve karst landscape southern Harz (Saxony- Anhalt), in the north of the Harz Nature Park / Saxony- Anhalt and to the northwest by the Harz ( Lower Saxony). The entire resin is large protected area where even the Harz National Park is located.

In the Nature Park Bach shrinkage, karst springs, and sinkholes Erdfallseen can find part plaster walls. Because of the many caves to live in the beech woods numerous bat species who find suitable quarters, including the Barbastelle. Similarly, there are occurrences of wildcat and lynx. Dry grasslands with orchids are the remains of former pastures and meadows on the karst areas.

The highest elevation in the southern Harz nature park is the Great Ehrenberg ( 635.5 m above sea level. NN ).
