The south- pikenische language (ISO 639-3: spx ) is an extinct language of the Italic branch of the Indo-European languages that was spoken by the ancient people of the Piceno.
Deciphering
The language is documented by a little more than 20 inscriptions from the period between the sixth and third centuries BC. For a long time the texts were not legible, it was found until the 1980s that the icons. and: are not punctuation, but also represent the sounds o and f. In contrast to the languages spoken in the same region north- pikenischen language can be clearly identified as Indo-European language South Pikenisch since then.
Classification
Within the Osco - Umbrian subgroup, the South Pikenische more similarities with the Umbrian than with the Oscan.
