South Point is a village in Lawrence County, Ohio, United States. The village is situated on the banks of the Ohio River, at the point where the three states of Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky form a common border. In South Point lived a total of 3742 inhabitants in 2000.

Mayor is William A. Gaskins.

History

As the founder of the place of William " Ranger" Davidson is assumed. He settled with his family here in 1798. In honor to a monument was erected in 1941. His son, the pastor William Warrington Davidson (1798-1883) founded 1833, the First Baptist Church of South Point.

On September 11, 1887, from administrators (English Commissioner) of Lawrence County, the 58 men signed the petition to establish a village (English Village ) answered positively. Thus, the development of the existing settlement was made possible to a self-managed village. On February 4, 1888, the first election of the mayor took place. This won Jerry J. Davidson, who held the office with a term interruption (1894 /95) until 1901. The initial two-year term of the mayor was in 1980 extended to four years.
