The U-434 ( Russian name: B- 515 ) is a submarine of the Tango class of the Soviet and Russian Navy with a crew of 62 men.

The boat

The submarine U-434 comes from the submarine shipyard Krasnoje Sormowo in Nizhny Novgorod and was built in just eight months in 1976. It was placed at the service of the Soviet Northern Fleet and remained until April 2002 service. The remaining functioning submarine is one of the world's largest non- nuclear-powered submarines and was primarily used for spying missions. For this reason, it has a six -inch-thick rubber coating so that it is virtually invisible to sonar.

According to the museum brochure the boat could be up to 400 meters deep dive and was powered by three 1733 - horsepower diesel engines, three 1740 - horsepower electric machines and a slow machine. It reached a surfaced speed of 13 knots and 16 knots submerged. The maximum possible Abtauchzeit was about 3 1/2 days at full occupation.

After being decommissioned, it was bought by investors for one million euros and could bring it to Hamburg. The transport devoured another million. U-434 is now at the fish market (St. Pauli fish market 10) in close proximity to the piers, where it serves as a museum ship "U- Boat Museum, Hamburg ." Until 15 April 2010 the submarine was in Hamburg's HafenCity ( Versmannstr. on Baakenhafen ⊙ 53.53778410.018993 ).
