The Sparkassen- Arena in the Schleswig-Holstein Kiel is one of the largest concert halls in Germany. Through a contract with the owners holding the Savings Banks Finance Group since 1 January 2008, the naming rights to the hall, before it was called Baltic hall. It is located in Kiel suburb between the parade ground and the European space center, within sight of the Kiel City Hall.

History

The 1950 adopted by the Kiel council building designed by architect Wilhelm Neveling was inaugurated on June 17, 1951 Kiel Week and completed in 1952. The architect Wilhelm Nevelig was commissioned. For this purpose, the steel structure of a disused aircraft hangar at the air base was mined on the island of Sylt and brought to Kiel. Over the decades it has been repeatedly renovated and expanded. In the federal election campaign in 1998 a major political rally with Gerhard Schröder took place here. The extensive remodeling in 2000, was created by the architectural firm Schnittger. On 1 January 2008 the naming rights were sold to the Savings Banks Finance Group and has since been called the Hall Sparkassen- Arena.

Facts & Figures

The hall can accommodate up to 13,500 visitors, 10,250 seats in the stands and optional 2,250 on the field, as well as 11 VIP boxes. The Sparkassen-Arena is primarily a venue for concerts and venue of handball matches of THW Kiel. Furthermore, the hall place of meetings, tradeshows, riding and boxing events and major political rallies.
