The Sperchios (Greek Σπερχειός, AltGr transcription Spercheios; . Alamana also Αλαμάνα, latin Spercheus ) is a river in the region of Central Greece, Greece. It rises on Tymfristos massif in the Regional District Evrytania. The river passes south of the Tymfristos massif, the village Lianokladi and then to the level of Fthiotida occurs at the level of the village Makrakomi. Then the Sperchios eastward flowing through the plane of Fthiotida, where it passes through the city of Lamia south. The south of Lamia originally existing marsh and wetlands were drained, the Sperchios channeled. It ends after 82 km in the Malian Gulf.

The Sperchios has several tributaries. The most important right inflowing tributaries are the Roustanitis and the Bistrica. Other smaller tributaries are the Mavroneri Fthiotidas, the Gorgopotamos and Asopus Fthiotidas. The latter three tributaries resulted initially in the Malian Gulf. By channeling and laying of Sperchios estuary to about five miles to the east tributaries now flow directly into the Sperchios.

The entry of sediments from the Sperchios leads to increasing siltation of the Malian Gulf (compare the silting of the Thermopylae Pass today in relation to the ancient topography, for example, at the time of the first battle of Thermopylae against the Persians 480 BC ).
