Aschau im Spertental

The Spertental is a southern tributary of the Brixen Valley in Tyrol. The Spertental is traversed by the Aschauer Ache.

Location and landscape

The Spertental has a length of about 8 km. In Kirchberg in Tirol ( 837 m above sea level ), it combines with the Brixental.

The landscape is framed by soft and magnificent mountain forms. The highest peaks, the Great ( 2,366 m) and Small Rettenstein ( 2,216 m), as well as smaller surveys, form a protective wall of the valley.

At the foot of the Great Rettenstein springs Aschauer Ache, the direction Kirchberg, and, under the name Reither Ache, continue to Reith bei Kitzbühel and then at St. Johann in Tirol in the Kitzbühel Ache flows.

The main town of the valley is Aschau im Spertental. The small village has around 500 inhabitants. The hamlet has its own parish church of the Holy Cross of Christ, as well as a school and a community center. In addition, the place has its own concert band and the Volunteer Fire Department provides fire protection and general help. At the entrance to the main town of Kirchberg is located. The two villages connects the Spertental country road (L 203).

In Aschau the Spertental branches in the Upper and Lower basic reason being one of two bottleneck valleys in the Pinzgau region of Salzburg in Neukirchen am Großvenediger ( violin saddle into Dürnbachtal ) and Hollerbach ( Stangenjoch into Mühlbachtal ) arrives. This valley is the nature reserve of Spertental - Rettenstein.
