Spirit of Berlin

Spirit of Berlin is a computer controlled car based on the Chrysler Voyager. It was designed and programmed in 2006/ 07 by the Working Group Robotics / Artificial Intelligence by Professor Raul Rojas of the Free University Berlin. The vehicle can navigate the road without human assistance. The vehicle was equipped with additional actuators allow the computer-controlled steering, braking and accelerating. Laser scanners, video cameras, and a GPS navigation system used car as sensors and allow the perception of the environment in real time. Computer processing the data from the sensors and generate the commands for the control of the car. But obstacles and other road users must be detected reliably.

Through the acceptance of driver assistance systems, the development of autonomous vehicles in recent years has become increasingly important. In 2011, a new autonomous car called MadeInGermany was developed by the Free University of Berlin and AutoNOMOS Labs.
