Spitter Waterfall

The Spitterfall with 19 meters of the highest natural waterfall in Thuringia ( Germany ).

The Spitter, a low mountain in the northwest of the Middle Thuringian Forest overcomes the Spitterfall below the ridge path Rennsteig in four sliding cascade stages of the Härtlingsrücken Hühnberg - rock, a dolerite of Unterrotliegenden ( Autun ). By Spitterfall a notch has been created that reaches down to the bottom of a glacially over-molded basin on the north side of the Thuringian Forest. The headwaters of the Spitter is just 1.5 kilometers away on the Ebertswiese, a point situated at about 750 to 800 meters altitude nature reserve on the border of counties Schmalkalden- Meiningen and Gotha. The Spitterfall itself is situated in the territory of the district of Gotha. It is protected as a geological monument of nature since 23 November 2001 Part of the nature reserve " Spittergrund ".

The creek crosses the Spitter in the area of the nature reserve Ebertswiese the only flowing water the course of the Rennsteig.
