Spotted Tail

Sinte Galeshka, also Sinte Gleska or Sinte Gleska ( Lkt: Sinte Gleska ), known as the Spotted Tail, (* 1823 in the White River (South Dakota); † August 5, 1881 ) was a chieftain of the Brulé Lakota Indians.

The English name Spotted Tail ( spotted tail ) he received from white fur hunters. In his youth he was called Jumping Buffalo. He received the chieftainship not by inheritance, but by his achievements as a warrior.

On June 6, 1870 Spotted Tail was a member of any Indian delegation, which the White House in Washington DC visited. While he was for some time in captivity at Fort Laramie, he learned to write and read English.

On August 5, 1881 he was killed by Crow Dog. Spotted Tail is buried in the cemetery at the Rosebud Reservation (South Dakota).
