Spreuerhofstraße

The Spreuerhofstraße is an alley in the old town of Reutlingen. She is only 50 meters long and bifurcates at its northern end to three adjacent houses built where their western arm is the " narrowest street in the world" according to the Guinness Book of Records. The width of the "street" is there an average of 40 inches at its narrowest point, it is 31 inches wide.

The gap, or narrowest area next to the building with the number 9, has a length of 3.80 meters. Since it is located on municipal land, it can be assigned to the public road area, what the title of the " closest street " enabled.

History

The alley was built after the fire of 1726, in which about 80 percent of the homes and most public buildings were destroyed and 1820 was reported as Ortsweg with the number 72. The Spreuerhof was originally a grain storage for the Reutlingen hospital and probably served as an escape route. After efforts of a Reutlinger tourism manager for the city marketing company which was incorporated in 2007 as "the world's narrowest street " in the Guinness Book of Records. Previously, in the southern English city of Exeter carried the Parliament Street this item. For the record, the Spreuerhofstraße is considered a tourist attraction of Reutlingen, and to have been committed by the President of the People's Republic of China Hu Jintao.

The adjoining house with the number 9 is currently in a state of disrepair. Due to its rotten timbers it tends increasingly, paving the way will continue narrowed down the lane and the distance between the gutter and the adjacent building is now less than an inch. As the owner of the house does not want to modernize the building is not a listed building and the record title would be endangered by demolition, the city of Reutlingen bought it in October 2013.
