Squarcialupi-Codex

The Squarcialupi Codex is a collection of works by composers of the Trecento.

Formation

The Codex was handwritten written 1410-1415, in the monastery of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Florence. Objective of the authors was to collect as all the works of the deceased and still living composer of the Trecento.

Was named the Codex by the organist Antonio Squarcialupi which, although not written himself, in whose possession it was, however, in the 15th century. Then he came through the agency of Raffaele Bonamici and Giuliano II de ' Medici 1512/13 at the Laurentian Library ( Call Number: Palatino 87).

Structure and repertoire

The codex contains 216 folios 352 works by twelve composers of the Trecento. The works are ordered by composer. By far the most space occupying composer is known Francesco Landini, who is represented with 145 of his works. This is followed with much less works Jacopo da Bologna (38 plants) and Bartolino da Padova (37 works ).
