Srinagar district

The district Srinagar ( Urdu: ضلع سری نگر ) is a district in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Seat of the district administration is Srinagar.

The district Srinagar is located in the central Kashmir valley. The district has an area of ​​1,979 square kilometers and 1,236,829 inhabitants ( 2011 census ). The population density is 625 inhabitants per square kilometer.

In the district of 21 square kilometers Dal Lake is a rich fauna. Other attractions include the Hazratbal Shrine, the Shankaracharya Temple ( the oldest probably in Kashmir ) and the Great Mosque ( Jama Masjid ).
