SS Mantola (1916)

The Mantola was a freight- propelled passenger ship of the British India Steam Navigation Company. From the stack it ran on 22 March 1916 near the shipyard Barclay Curle & Company, Glasgow. It was torpedoed in the First World War on 8 February 1917 by the German submarine U 81 south-west of Ireland and sank the following day.

Rediscovery

The treasure hunters Odyssey Marine Exploration company discovered the shipwreck in 2011 about 2,500 m water depth.
