Maria Rye Village is a cadastral district and a place of pilgrimage with about 150 inhabitants ( 2001) in the municipality in the district Wullersdorf Hollabrunn in Lower Austria.

History

The place name Ruchendorf was first documented in 1230. 1784 Rogge village was a local vicariate in 1782 and an independent parish. On July 22, 1971, the council decided to change the place name in " Maria Rye Village".

Marian pilgrimage

Since 1291 a Lady Chapel is occupied in the place, which was then a branch church of Nappersdorf. From the 15th century a Marian pilgrimage developed. 1653 pilgrimage church built by John Angelo Canevale was completed and dedicated to Mary birth. After a fire in 1695 the house of God by Carlo Antonio Carlone was rebuilt and received its present appearance.

In the 18th century the pilgrimage reached more than 5000 pilgrims at the great Marian feasts its peak. Joseph II forbade in 1785 the pilgrimages. In 1924 there was another public pilgrimages to the Feast of the birth on September 8. Hans Hermann Groër began on 13 October 1969 monthly pilgrimages in the spirit of Fátima. On August 6, 1988, Pope John Paul II the Sanctuary with the Apostolic Letter intra Vindobonensis to minor basilica.

Maria Rye village has two miraculous images. Originally probably the late Gothic aureole Madonna was ( a wooden sculpture ) mainly worshiped as shown by the Wallfahrtsbildchen. Since the month of pilgrimages moved the painted on leather " tender Mother of God representation " (see picture) into the center of Marian devotion.

Kloster Marienfeld and Monastery of St. Joseph

Hans Hermann Groër founded near the Cistercian monastery of Marienfeld, which was inaugurated on 14 November 1982. On September 7, 1991, the Göttweig built in place the Benedictine priory of St. Joseph, which an independent monastery was on December 11, 2005.
