The Olympic Ice Stadium ( Stadio Olimpico Italian ) in Cortina d'Ampezzo was built in 1952-1955 and opened at the Winter Olympics in 1956. It is located in Via A. Bonacossa 1

History

When it was opened in 1955 and at the Olympic Games in the year, the stadium had no roof. This was only added in later expansion work in 2002, while the spectator capacity decreased from 7,000 standing and 5,000 seats to 2,000 seats at sporting events and 2,700 during shows. Since then, the stadium is called Nuovo Stadio Olimpico.

  • Since 1955 the Italian first division SG Cortina plays its home games at the Stadio Olimpico.
  • The Olympic Ice Stadium Cortina is known were also rotated by the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only, for some scenes in the arena.
