Stare Miasto, Pomeranian Voivodeship

Stare Miasto ( Old German ) is a village in the municipality of Stary Dzierzgoń (Alt Christburg ) in the powiat Sztum ( Stuhm ) in the Pomeranian Voivodeship in northern Poland. It is located about 6 km north- west of Stary Dzierzgoń, 22 km east of Sztum and 70 km south-east of Gdansk.

History of the village of Old Town

The village of Old Town was awarded in 1312 by Commander Günther von Arnstein from Christburg the Tangible. By 1945, the old town belonged to Prussia and to the circle Morag, East Prussia, Germany. The village had 1080 inhabitants. In 1945 it came to the expulsion of the German inhabitants.

Today, the village has 290 inhabitants.

Church of St. Peter and Paul

The church was built in the first half of the 14th century and renovated in 1682. A cornerstone shows 1495 or 1496 as the year. The wooden ceiling and benches are taken in the Baroque.

The Fischer- organ was built in 1796 and renewed in 1866 and extended. This lavish housing and the Prospectus resisted the war damage in 1945. However, all pipes were stolen. The mechanism fell into disrepair.

In the years 2008 to 2009, a monument faithful new organ was built in historic housing through the organ building and restoration workshop Rainer Wolter private initiative of former German parishioners.
