StarUML

StarUML is a free UML tool. The stated project objective is to replace the large, commercial applications such as Borland's Together or Rational Rose.

StarUML is the world's first free UML tool, it uses a modified version of the GNU General Public License. Since August 2006 StarUML was downloaded from the SourceForge page about 3 million times. Currently StarUML is downloaded approximately 50,000 times per month. This StarUML is one of the world's most successful UML tools.

Functionalities

StarUML supports up to timing diagrams and interaction overview diagrams all types of diagrams of the Unified Modeling Language 2.0. Object diagrams and package diagrams can be created using the editor for class diagrams.

StarUML supports round-trip engineering and model-driven architecture. It is possible, among other things, the Unified Modeling Language diagrams from existing C - C # - and Java source code, and vice versa from the UML specification ( class diagrams ) to generate source code in these languages.

StarUML allows UML diagrams in JPEG format or export as a Windows Metafile. Diagrams can be imported from XML Metadata Interchange ( XMI) format or from Rational Rose files.

StarUML UML itself saves files in its own proprietary format with the extension uml. .

History

In 1996, the Plastic launched project. It was a simple tool for drawing software modules and their dependencies. The version 1.0 of Plastic in 1997 released as freeware, already with Object - Modeling Technique support.

In 1998, the version 1.1 of Plastic with support for UML class diagrams has been released. 1999 Plastic Software, Inc. was founded and Plastic completed in version 2.0. Version 2.0 supported all that time diagrams of the UML, and Java code generation and reverse engineering.

2001, the version 3.0 of Plastic was completed with full support of UML 1.3, 2003 Plastic has been completely reengineered and re- written and released as version 2003 Plastic with UML 1.4 and open interfaces.

2005 Plastic was first, then renamed Agora Plastic 2005 later in StarUML 5.0. Agora Plastic 2005 already supported internationalization, StarUML 5.0 supported UML 2.0. StarUML 5.0 was the first version that was released as open source.

The project has for a long time (December 2005) find no centralized updates, only external modules have been updated. Trying with Java technology on the Eclipse platform to develop StarUML based new failed. A future development of StarUML under this name can be assumed to be unlikely.

Since the end of 2011 however, there is a fork of StarUML project. Under the name WhiteStarUML StarUML is further developed by using the Object Pascal programming language. WhiteStarUML sat up on the last version of StarUML ( 5.0), and served in the versioning scheme at. The current version of WhiteStarUML is 5.4.7 dated 6 January 2014.
