Stary Gierałtów

Stary Gieraltów ( [ starɨ ɟɛraʊ̯tuf ] German Altgersdorf; formerly Old Gersdorf ) is a village in the south of the powiat Kłodzki in the Province of Lower Silesia in Poland. It is located five kilometers south-west of Lądek -Zdrój and belongs to the municipality Stronie Śląskie (page Berg).

Geography

Stary Gieraltów located in the southeast of the Glatzer boiler in Reichensteiner Mountains. Through the town flows the Landecker Biele. Neighboring towns are Karpno in the north, Nowy Gieraltów and Bielice in the southeast, southwest and Stójków Goszów in the northwest. Across the border in the Czech Republic are the villages Zálesí and Nové Vilémovice ( New Wilmsdorf ) to the northeast and Hraničky ( frontier village ) and Nova Véska ( Neudorf ) in the east. North-east rises the 766 m high Trojak ( Three Ecker ), south is the Biel Mountains.

History

Altgersdorf was first mentioned in 1346 as Geraczdorf and belonged to the castle and lordship Karpenstein in Glatz. After the destruction of the castle in 1443 it fell as a royal chamber village on the crown of Bohemia. During the Reformation, the population known to the Lutheran faith. After the recapture of the County of Glatz 1622/1623 by the imperial troops was recatholicisation of the residents.

After the Silesian Wars Altgersdorf coincided with the county of Glatz in 1763 with the Peace of Hubertusburg to Prussia. After the reorganization of Prussia Altgersdorf belonged since 1815 to the province of Silesia and was first incorporated into the county of Glatz. 1818 was reclassified in the newly formed district Habelschwerdt to which it belonged until 1945. 1874 District Gersdorf was formed, which included the rural communities Altgersdorf, Biel village, Gompersdorf, Mühlbach and Neugersdorf. 1939 counted 662 inhabitants.

As a result of World War II Altgersdorf fell in 1945 as almost all of Silesia to Poland and was renamed in Stary Gieraltów. The German population was expelled. The new inhabitants were partly displaced persons from eastern Poland. Many of them left in the coming decades Stary Gieraltów again, so many houses and farms were left to decay. In the 1990s, the population was around half of the population of 1939. Stary Gieraltów 1975-1998 belonged to the province Wałbrzych.
