Stasys Raštikis

Stasys Raštikis (* September 13 1896 in Kuršėnai; † 3 May 1985 in Los Angeles ) was a Lithuanian Major General, Chief of Staff and Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces ( 1935-1940 ) and publicist.

Life

1925-1929 he studied at the University of Kaunas and later at the Military Academy in Germany.

1926 Stasys Raštikis headed the Department of Intelligence of the General Staff. In 1934 he was appointed Chief of Staff. In 1937 he was promoted to brigadier general. From 1 January 1935 to March 22, 1940 Stasys Raštikis was Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. From March 24 1938 to December 5, 1938 Stasys Raštikis was also defense minister, in 1940 head of the Vytautas Magnus military academy.

In 1941 he emigrated to Germany in 1949 in the United States. Stasys Raštikis was here as a journalist and publicist employees of Lithuanian exile newspapers like "Karo archyvas ", " Mūsų žinynas ", " Karys ", " Trimitas ", " Lietuvių archyvas ", " Dirva ", " Tėvynės sargas ".

On May 3, 1985, he died in Los Angeles. Later his body was reburied to Kaunas.
