State Hydraulic Works

Devlet Su İşleri, abbreviated to DSI, is the state water authority in Turkey. The Authority is responsible for drinking water and industrial water, for electricity produced by hydropower, water use in agriculture, environmental protection and protection against flooding. The official name of the authority is Devlet Su İşleri Genel Müdürlüğü ( " Directorate General of Water Affairs of the State" ). The abbreviation is DSI. The water authority is affiliated to the Environment and Forests Ministry of Economy.

Construction

The water authority is a " General " ( Genel Müdürlüğü ) and is currently led by Haydar Koçaker. The Directorate-General for different organizational units with responsibility for press, law, control and next assume nor the specialist units for the various areas of responsibility. In the provinces the water authority is represented by 26 " area directorates ". Here, several provinces are grouped to a "field " ( bölge ).

History

Precursor to the water authority was the Sular Fen heyeti Müdürlüğü ( " Directorate of the water technical committee " ), which was founded in 1925. After a severe drought followed in 1929 the establishment of the Sular Umum Müdürlüğü ( " Directorate General of Water "). 1939, the Su İşleri Reisliği ( " Bureau of Water Affairs ") was established. It was attached to the Ministry of Public Affairs. In 1954, the water authority has been equipped with more skills and renamed Devlet Su İşleri Umum Müdürlüğü. Since 2007, the Water Authority is attached to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
