StatusNet

StatusNet (formerly Laconica ) is a technology developed in PHP free software for micro - blogging services, the (formerly: Open microblogging) the OStatus standard implemented. This StatusNet allows open communication between online communities with similar functionality to Twitter.

Businesses and consumers to install their own servers and hence their services and data control in their local networks, which microblogging is internally available. Unlike Twitter an open and decentralized structure is built. Moreover StatusNet provides a possibility that users may communicate via different servers.

The most popular StatusNet service was identi.ca, with around 200,000 hits in March 2010. Since July 2013 identi.ca uses the software pump.io. Other important implementations are army.twit.tv twit.tv and bleeper.de through which are the most likely instances outside of North America in western europe for the podcast network.
