Stavros Niarchos Foundation

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation is a charitable foundation based in Athens. It manages a large part of the former private wealth and estate of Stavros Niarchos. Founded in 1996 immediately after his death by his heirs.

The Foundation has offices in Athens, New York and Monaco. One focus of the Foundation's activities is the promotion of programs in Switzerland and Greece. A total of 948 million euros were awarded to 1,900 organizations in 109 countries. In Germany the ChildFund Germany supports for example.

Famous works from the extensive private collection of Stavros Niarchos is on loan to Swiss museums. 2007 the Numismatic Museum in Athens was left to the extensive coin collection. 2012 was bought by the Foundation, the Cup Marathon winner of the first Olympic Games of the modern era at Christie's.

Currently, the Foundation financed the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens, which was designed by Renzo Piano and will serve as the new headquarters of the National Library and National Opera ( Εθνική Λυρική Σκηνή ). With a total amount of 100 million euro projects will be funded that serve to alleviate the financial crisis in Greece.
