Steamboat Geyser

The Steamboat geyser ( Steamboat Geyser English ) is currently the largest active geyser in the world. It is located in the Norris Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park in the U.S., at an altitude of 2,303 m. The Steamboat Geyser has two mouths, about five meters apart.

The water fountain can reach a height of over 90 meters. The highest ever measured ejection height is 130 meters. An outbreak lasts for 3 to 40 minutes, then the geyser can eject up to two days of water vapor. The main eruptions take place irregularly; can be four days to 50 years between two such outbreaks, the geyser has completely irregular and unpredictable intervals. In between, there are always smaller bursts of 3 to 5 meters in height. Between 1911 and 1961, the geyser was inactive.

The last nine major eruptions of Steamboat Geyser are (as of July 2013):

Perhaps a major eruption took place on 21 February 2007 again, but this was not observed directly.

The world's largest geyser was active 1900-1904 Waimangu Geyser in New Zealand with up to 460 meters throw height.
