Stefan Parkman

Carl Martin Stefan Parkman ( born June 22, 1952 in Uppsala, Sweden) is a Swedish conductor, high school teacher and choir director.

Life

Parkman grew up in his native town, and studied at the University of Uppsala singing and conducting. He took over at the age of 24 years in 1976 the management of the boys' choir at the cathedral in Uppsala. With this choir, which he headed until 1988, he undertook several concert tours abroad. Since 1983, he is the conductor of Uppsala Akademiska Kammarkör and was also for some years the head of the Royal Philharmonic Choir in Stockholm.

1989-2002 Parkman was chief conductor of the Danish Radio Choir and thereafter until 2005 of the Swedish Radio Choir. Since 1998, he was appointed head of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. He has spent the last two decades, numerous Scandinavian orchestras, and conducted choral and opera performances in Europe and the United States. In 2010 he conducted the premiere of several choral works by the Finnish composer Jaakko Mäntyjärvi.

For the season 2014/15 he became chief conductor of the WDR Radio Choir in Cologne.

Park man is Eric Ericson professor of choral conducting at the University of Uppsala. He is the older brother of the Swedish composer Håkon Parkman.
