Stefan Schnabel

Stefan Schnabel ( born February 2, 1912 in Berlin, † 11 March 1999 in Rogaro / Tremezzo ) was a German actor.

The son of pianist Artur Schnabel and the singer Therese Behr - Schnabel emigrated to the seizure of power by the National Socialists in 1933 with his parents from Berlin to Italy. In the same year he went to London, where he found his first job at the Old Vic Theatre as wind noise makers at a performance of The Tempest.

Soon after, he made ​​himself a name as an actor here and played in various Shakespeare classics such as Macbeth, As You Like It and King Lear, as well as stage plays by other authors. In 1937 he moved to the United States and acted in the same year in Los Angeles and New York City.

He also began as a radio speaker and in 1938 was involved in the famous War of the Worlds by Orson Welles. Total bill had approximately 5,000 radio programs with. By Welles he came to Hollywood in 1943 and began his career as a film actor there.

Schnabel played the following decades, at irregular intervals in various American productions. Occasionally, he was also in Germany and Austria before the camera. In television he had from 1965 to 1981 a recurring role as Dr. Steven Jackson in the series Guiding Light.

He was from 1939 to 1945 with Joan Pittman (a child ) and from 1947 to Marion Kohler (two children ) married. With his second wife he lived 45 years in Rowayton (Connecticut) and, together with it, the Rainbow Theatre. In 1992 he settled in Rogaro on Lake Como.
