Steffen Baumgart

Steffen Baumgart ( born January 5, 1972 in Rostock, East Germany ) is a former German football player and current coach. Since the end of the 2012/13 season he is without a club.

Career as a player

From 1988 to 1991 Baumgart played at SG Dynamo Schwerin. With the Schwerinern he reached the final of fdgb Cup but missed the sensation against Dynamo Dresden and lost, among other things Andreas Reinke and Matthias Stammann 1-2. After German reunification, it drew Baumgart to Aurich. He kicked a contract and made an amateur automotive training. The 1.78 m tall center forward then began his professional career in 1995 with the Hansa Rostock. Overall, he played with a break six years at FC Hansa and scored 32 goals. In 2002 he went to the first FC Union Berlin, where he played two years and quickly became a fan favorite and captain. With Union, he rose in the season 2003/ 04 from a table next to last in the 2nd Bundesliga.

After the descent, it remained in the 2nd Bundesliga and moved free transfer to Energie Cottbus. With Cottbus he secured in his first season in the league and got the following season with the Lusatians on in the 1st Bundesliga. In the first season after promotion he could keep up with the class Cottbus. On January 3, 2008, the end of the season expiring contract was terminated by mutual agreement. On January 22, his obligation at the 1 FC Magdeburg was announced. The FCM hoped still to achieve the qualification for the new third division with the experienced professional. In 225 Bundesliga games Baumgart scored 29 goals. In the 2nd Bundesliga he played a total of 142 times, scoring 36 goals.

Career as a coach

On 31 March 2009 Steffen Baumgart was introduced as the new coach of 1.FC Magdeburg after moved under predecessor Paul Linz the desired goal for the season of the FCM, the rise in the 3rd league, due to a too large distance to front runner Holstein Kiel into the distance had.
