Sten Selander

Nils Edvard Sten Selander ( born July 1, 1891April 8, 1957 ) was a Swedish poet and botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Selander ".

Life

Selander was in publishing and as a literary critic active and since 1935 head of the cultural section of the Svenska Dagbladet. He wrote poems about often taken from the everyday topics in a traditional way. His first collection of poems was verse och visor ( " verses and songs ," 1916).

The breakthrough he achieved with the highly successful collection Staden och andra dikter ( "The City and Other Poems ", 1926). In 1942 the collection of poems Dikter från tjugofem år 1916-1941 ( "Poems of twenty-five years from 1916 to 1941 "). Sten Selander took a more conservative taste, but was also modern trends quite open.

However, it caused a sensation when he was in a newspaper article of modern poetry in 1946 accused incomprehensibility. Later Selander withdrew from the culture of life, a PhD in Botany, was a lecturer in botany and wrote scientific works. Who did much also as chairman of the Swedish Nature Conservation. In this capacity, he warned early on against environmental destruction. Sten Selander 1953 was elected a member of the Swedish Academy.
