Stephen Carter, Baron Carter of Barnes

Stephen Andrew Carter, Baron Carter of Barnes, CBE, PC ( born February 12, 1964) is a Scottish businessman and Labour Party politician, who was previously Minister for Communications, Technology and Broadcasting in the British government.

Life and career

Carter was born in Scotland and attended the Currie High School in Edinburgh. From 1982 to 1987 he studied law at the University of Aberdeen, where he graduated with an LLB Hons. He was 1985-1986 president of the student body. He later attended the London Business School, and the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 1997.

He is currently Chief Marketing, Strategy and Communication Officer at Alcatel -Lucent.

After graduation from the University of Aberdeen, Carter began as a trainee at the advertising agency J Walter Thompson UK. In 1995 he was Managing Director and two years later the Chief Executive. 2000 Carter Chief Operating Officer of the British cable TV company NTL.
