Stephen K. Hayes

Stephen K. Hayes ( born September 9, 1949 in Delaware) is an American martial artist and ninjutsu teacher, he was a student of Masaaki Hatsumi.

He achieved international fame through his now six-part, up to the fourth part was published in Germany series of ninja books, in which he explains the teachings of the legendary Japanese special agents and has made understandable to a broad Western audience.

Hayes is a member of the Black Belt Hall of Fame and has a total of nineteen books published with a total circulation of 1.3 million copies in five different languages ​​and various DVDs. In German translation, however, only the above-mentioned four-part series of ninja books appeared.

1971 Hayes graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in the art spectacle. In early years, Hayes has also worked as an actor and photo model, it was seen as a double of Richard Chamberlain and as a model in the manual of the Canon AE1 camera, among other things in the miniseries "Shogun ." Married is Hayes with Rumiko Urata, and together they have two daughters, Reina and Marissa.

Stephen K. Hayes is a recognized authority in ninjutsu and is also considered an experienced and passionate followers of Tendai Buddhism Mikkyo. She now lives and Hayes works in Dayton (Ohio ) in the U.S., and was last on the front page of Black Belt magazine in the issue of March 2007. In the editorial of the magazine Hayes is the focus and is known as one of the 10 most influential living martial artists in the world.

Life

After graduation from the University of Miami in 1971, Hayes spent much time in search of authentic martial arts traditions and practiced Tang Soo Do In Japan he met in June 1975, the teacher, after which he had been looking for all these years, Masaaki Hatsumi, founder of the Bujinkan Dojo.

Hayes returned to the U.S. and sparked there with his friend Bud Malmstrom from the " ninja boom" of the 1980s. During this time he helped significantly in making known Ninjutsu in America and Western Europe. Many of today's large Bujinkan teachers in America began their training with Hayes during this time, among other things, Bud Malmstrom, Jack Hoban, Mark Davis, Jean -Pierre Seibel, Courtland Elliott.

1991 Hayes received the Tokudo - ordination in Tendai Buddhism from the Tendai master and Vajra Acharya, Clark Jikai Choffy. In 1993, Hayes Hatsumi the Yudan ( black belt tenth degree). In 1997 he founded his own martial arts style, the To- Shin Do, based on his life experiences and knowledge in Budo taijutsu, but mainly influenced by his work as a bodyguard for Tenzin Gyatsho, the fourteenth Dalai Lama of Tibet. Hayes has also established a direction in Buddhism, the Blue Lotus Assembly.

2006 Hayes name plaque was removed from the Bujinkan Honbu -. Although this is confirmed by both sides, there are no reliable statements about the reason. Hayes says, other ( non-Japanese ) teachers had pushed so long to remove from Masaaki Hatsumi envy his name, until it finally gave way. Hayes and his company SKH Quest continue the work, make the art of martial arts available to everyone. The SKH Quest network currently includes 18 schools in 12 states and two other schools in England.
