Stephen Keshi

Stephen Okechukwu Keshi ( born January 31, 1962 in Lagos) is a Nigerian football coach and former player. He became the second man after Mahmoud El- Gohary, the African Cup of Nations in 1994 as a player ( captain ) and African Cup of Nations in 2013 as a coach. He belongs to the ethnic group of the Igbo.

Playing career

From 1979 to 1984 Stephen Keshi played in his native Nigeria at the clubs ACB Lagos and New Nigerian Bank. After that he went to the Ivory Coast to Stade d' Abidjan. Only one season later he moved to league rivals Africa Sports National, with whom he won the 1986 Ivorian league and cup double. After this success season Keshi went to Europe for Belgian club Lokeren SC. But even here he remained faithful to his club for only one season and was then obliged by Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht. National

Coaching career

Directly after the end of the playful career Stephen Keshi went back to his home country of Nigeria and was assistant coach of the national team. In 2004 he was in Togo for the first time head coach of a national team (Togo).
