Stetind

The Stetind ( Sami Státtájåhkkå ) is a 1,392 m high mountain in the Tysfjorden in Northern Norway. The Norwegian translation of his name means " anvil pinnacle ". In 2002, he was elected in Norway for " National Mountain".

After some climbing attempts end of the 19th century that in 1910 the initial ascent of the mountain by Ferdinand Schjeldrup, Carl Wilhelm Rubenson and Alf Bonnevie Bryn. The first winter ascent as well as the ascent of the west face extremely difficult succeeded the Norwegian eco - philosopher Arne Næss and mountaineers.

Stetind is considered high granite obelisk of the earth. Dominates its surroundings and it dominates clearly. The location in the far north and the often extreme weather conditions make its ascent on the normal route to a serious endeavor.

Through the mountain leads since the 1980s, a tunnel in the European route E6, a building that is highly controversial among locals as well as among conservationists.
