Steve Finnan

Stephen "Steve" John Finnan ( born April 24, 1976 in Limerick, Ireland) is an Irish former football player who was most recently at Portsmouth FC in the English Premier League under contract. He is currently without a club.

Career

Steve Finnan began his career at Welling United. About Birmingham City and Notts County led his way to Fulham FC, with whom he rose to the Premier League in 2001. After two successful years, crowned by winning the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2003, he was transferred for a transfer fee of five million euros to the English giants Liverpool.

In his first season he was stopped by numerous injuries. In his second year, however, he succeeded his biggest triumph. Although the final of the Carling Cup was lost against Chelsea, but in the final of the Champions League succeeded the victory, even if Finnan had to be replaced at half-time due to injury. In the same year, still followed the tracks in the European Super Cup. In 2006 he was the FA Cup winners.

On 1 September 2008 Finnan signed a two - year contract with the Spanish side Espanyol. After he came to only four inserts for Espanyol in the first year, we broke the contract at the end of the season by mutual consent, and Finnan joined for one year the FC Portsmouth.

National

Finnan had already gained some experience in the Irish Under-21 team before he was able to celebrate 2000, his senior international debut against Greece. In the 2002 World Cup, he was a regular in the Irish national team.
