Steve Hochstadt

Hochstadt is professor of history at Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois. He joined the faculty since 2006 and previously taught for 27 years at Bates College in Maine. His grandmother, a Jewish German who escaped the Holocaust by emigrating to Shanghai, sparked his interest in Jewish emigrants to Asia. He conducted interviews with over 100 former Shanghai countries who now live in the U.S. and Europe. Based on his studies, he has written numerous books about the Holocaust, and in particular about the Jewish refugees in Asia. In addition, Hochstadt member of the Sino - Judaic Institute, an NGO with the objective of Community cooperation in cultural and historical areas between Chinese and Jews.
