Stewart Rome

Stewart Rome, actually Wernham Ryott Gifford ( born January 30, 1886 in Newbury, Berkshire, United Kingdom, † February 26, 1965 ) was a British actor, a silent movie idol of the 10s and 20s.

Life

Rome had started a degree in civil engineering and worked for four years in this profession. In 1906 he moved into acting. Rome made ​​his debut in the play ' The Girl Behind the Counter'. He then went on extended tour through Australia and New Zealand.

Back in England, Rome began in 1913 a film career that made the handsome actor into one of the most popular movie stars of the next decade and a half. In 1915 he ranked in a survey of a British magazine after the popular actor at No. 2, just behind Charles Chaplin. Stewart Rome embodied in its ( cultural-historical meaningless ) films romantic lover, perfect gentleman, elegant and sporty adventurer nobles of all kinds.
