Stewart Stern

Stewart Stern ( born March 22, 1922) is an American screenwriter. He was twice nominated for an Oscar and won the Emmy. His most famous screenplay he wrote for the film ... for they know not what they do with James Dean.

Works

Besides ... for they know not what they were doing star outstanding works of the screenplay for the television film Sybil, which won both star and the actress Sally Field an Emmy; Accusation: treason with Paul Newman; The James Dean Story (directed by Robert Altman ); The Outsider with Tony Curtis; The Ugly American with Marlon Brando; The love of a summer with Joanne Woodward; and The Last Movie (directed by Dennis Hopper). He is also the author of the book No Tricks in My Pocket: Paul Newman Directs (1989).

Life

Stern is a nephew of Adolph Zukor, founder of Paramount Pictures. As a soldier, he took part in World War II at the Battle of the Bulge. He is the subject of the documentary Going Through Splat: The Life and Work of Stewart Stern ( 2005).
