Stierva

Stierva ( German and until 1943 officially Stürvis ) is a municipality in the district of Albula Alvaschein in the district of the canton Graubünden in Switzerland.

Geography

The village Stierva is a scattered village high above the left side of the Albula in the eastern slopes of a mountain range, the highest mountains of the Curvér Pintg are there Taspegn ( 2731 m) and the Muttner Horn ( 2401 m). The parish boundary is formed in the valley below the Albula. To the municipality, the hamlet Bargung still belong next to the village (1540 m ) and various homesteads. Of the total municipal area of 1054 ha 444 ha are covered by forests and woodland and 71 hectares of mountains. Of the 520 ha of land, which can be used for agricultural purposes, are 428 hectares of mountain pastures. The remaining 19 ha community area is urbanized area.

Languages

The sole official language of the church is Romanesque. The population speaks the dialect Surmeirisch. In 1900 all of the 150 residents spoke Romanesque. 1970 gave 96 % Romansh as their native language. Since then, the share of the German has grown massively.

Origin and nationality

From the end of 2004 144 inhabitants were 140 Swiss nationals.
