Stimpmeter

The Stimpmeter is a measuring device in golf. With its help, the rolling length of a golf ball on the putting green be determined.

The Stimpmeter was already invented in 1935 by the U.S. bankers and golfer Edward Stimpson. It was not until 1975, it was used by the U.S. Golf Association United States Golf Association. A Stimpmeter consists of a V-shaped aluminum frame with a length of 36 inches ( 91.44 cm) and a width of 1.75 inches (4.45 cm). At 30 inches ( 76.2 cm) is a notch for the storage of the golf ball. The opening angle of the V is 145 °.

To measure the Stimpmeter is placed at one end of the green. The other end is raised. A notch in the rail ensures that a ball only from a lift angle of about 20 ° is set in motion and then rolled with a defined speed of the green. Depending on the nature of the greens there are various roll lengths. The length measurement is performed six times and an average is.

For slow greens waters may rise by about 200 cm, for very fast greens of up to 350 cm.
