Stith Thompson

Stith Thompson ( born March 7, 1885 in Bloomfield (Kentucky ); † January 13, 1976 in Columbus ( Indiana)) was an American folklorist.

As a representative of the Finnish school called ( geographical- historical method ) of the revised narrative research and he added first in 1927 and then again in 1961 originally published 1910 classification of fairy tales and vestibular groups of Antti Aarne ( Aarne -Thompson Index).

In 1959 Thompson and his colleague Archer Taylor an honorary doctorate from the Christian-Albrechts -University of Kiel.
