Stockholm Observatory

The Observatory Stockholm ( Swedish: Stockholms Observatory ) is an astronomical observatory in Stockholm, Sweden. It was founded in the 18th century and is now part of the Department of Astronomy at the University of Stockholm.

The observatory was built by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences through the initiative of its secretary Per elvius the Younger ( 1710-1749 ). It was built according to the plans of architect Carl Hårleman 1748-1756. The first director was Pehr Wilhelm Wargentin followed, inter alia, Hugo Gylden and Bertil Lindblad.

In 1929 started the construction of a new observatory on Karlsbaderberget Saltsjobaden. This was designed by the architect Axel Anderberg and completed in 1931. The old observatory has since been used as a museum.

2001 pulled the faculty in the newly built Albanova universitetscentrum at the Stockholm Roslagstull. Since 2007 located in the dome of the building a new observatory with a Ritchey -Chrétien telescope of a meter in diameter.
