The stubble mountain lookout and radio tower

The stubble mountain near Wetzlar in central Hesse Lahn- Dill-Kreis is an extinct volcano with 401.2 m above sea level. NHN in the Taunus. The summit of basalt knoll is the highest point of Wetzlar.

Geography

Location

The stubble Mountain with its elongated towards the southwest ridge is located on the northern foothills of the Eastern Hintertaunus. It is located in the outer north of the Taunus nature park approximately 3.3 km south-southeast of the old town of Wetzlar and about 2.4 km (each air line) east of the district Nauborn. West past the mountain flows the Lahn- inflow Wetzbach.

Nature Spatial allocation

The stubble mountain belongs to the physiographic main unit Taunus group (No. 30) and in the main unit Eastern Hintertaunus ( 302) for subunit Wetzlar Hintertaunus ( 302.0 ).

Colonization

The stubble Mountain and the surrounding country were settled very early: from the Mesolithic ( 10000-4500 BC), there were people. This is evidenced by finds from different prehistoric eras. From the Bronze Age around the mountain next to mounds, and look for the urn field culture. The ramparts on the stubble mountain probably dating to the late Iron Age ( Hallstatt D, 650-475 BC ), so it could be a hillfort, a so-called castle act.

Approximately 1.4 km (air line) west of the mountain summit is one of the Wetzlar destinations, which belongs to the district of Nauborn cherry grove as a small, quiet cottage area with catering establishments and garden clubs.

Observation tower

On the stubble is the youngest mountain lookout tower Wetzlar. It was built in 1929 by the company Hollmann to replace the dilapidated wooden predecessor.

Transmitting station

2004 began with the construction of a 48 m high, constructed as a steel truss structure transmission tower.
